As an adult, I have become a romantic comedy / happy ending junkie. I can not get enough of all the movies that I would have sneered at in high school: Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, French Kiss, and Moonstruck, just to name a few. Don’t get me wrong, I still love a dark and twisty movie that make my insides hurt like Shutter Island or an old fashioned horror school flick like The Conjuring that makes me look at my closet suspiciously at night (you will too when you see it!), but somewhere along the way I became this hopeless romantic who gets this ridiculous, sappy, grin on her face when she watches Cher go to the opera with Nicholas Cage.
And now I come to the point of my blog, dear readers. I have shot weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, senior portraits, and family shoots, but fast becoming my absolute favorite of photography shoots are engagement sessions. I have finally discovered an occupation where I can shoot my very own romantic comedy. From story-boarding to location picks to wardrobe changes, engagement sessions are a fun and romantic opportunity for the couple to show off who they really are and what there relationship is all about.
Take Marcus and Joy for example. As a couple, they are down-to-earth, outgoing, totally in love, and completely invested in their photo shoot. We got together and discussed not only different concepts and locations for the shoot, but about their relationship and how the photographs from the session would reveal their story as couple; how they fell in love, and how they stay in love with each other every day. Yuck, I can feel that sappy grin on my face right now. As Cher would say, “Snap out of it!”
So, coming soon to a theater near you, a couple torn apart by distance, time, and rush hour traffic on 501, only to rediscover each other in a chance encounter that only fate could arrange...
